Formation as rock band and early years (2004–2005)
Fear! at the Ryan Ross, who sang and played the guitar, and Spencer Smith, who played the drums, created the band Disco in 2004 in the Las Vegas neighbourhood of Summerlin. They started making music together in the ninth grade and both went to Bishop Gorman High School. They recruited buddy and Palo Verde High School student Brent Wilson to play bass and Wilson’s classmate Brendon Urie to try out on guitar.
The solo project of American artist Brendon Urie is Panic! at the Disco. Urie, Ryan Ross, Spencer Smith, and Brent Wilson, childhood friends, started it as a pop rock band in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2004. While still in high school, they recorded their first demos.
Every album by Panic! at the Disco has seen a musical change. They have primarily been labelled as pop rock musicians.
A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, the band’s first studio album, has been compared to dance-punk, electronica, baroque pop, emo pop, pop punk, and alternative rock. Panic! at the Disco frequently stated on record that their follow-up to A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out would be entirely different.
