World Football: Greatest Teams of the 21st Century
We have seen some incredible teams emerge in the first ten years of the twenty-first century, both at the club and international levels. The Top 10 teams of the decade, in my opinion, along with the time frame in which these teams were at their greatest, are listed below:
1-Barcelona
Possibly one of the best teams ever and the best squad of the decade! Guardiola’s “Dream Team” accomplished unimaginable feats in 2009. The most dominant team in history (arguably) also became the most successful team in history by winning a record-breaking six trophies in one season. They played some of the most beautiful football ever seen.
2-Spain
.the decade’s top national team. The current European and World Champions are Spain. And without a shadow of a doubt, Spain’s national squad is the finest in the world.
3-Brazil
The world champions in 2002! Brazil played outstanding football during the 2002 World Cup, winning every game. Ronaldo scored eight goals against Rivaldo’s five. Scolari used a 3-4-1-2 structure to make a group of talented players into a squad that was almost invincible.
4-AC Milan
Milan made it to three Champions League finals in five years (winning two), along with semifinal and quarterfinal appearances. Milan is one of the teams of the decade as a result of this alone.
5-Manchester United
Three consecutive Premier League championships with a Champions League title in the midst can only be achieved by a really good club. Rooney and Ronaldo, two of the best players in the world, led United, which dominated Europe from 2007 to 2009 by making it to two Champions League finals and one semifinal.
