With the coming of St. Louis City SC, a Major League Soccer expansion team set to start play in 2023, the city is set to receive another significant professional franchise. St. Louis has a long history in soccer, sending at least one player to each FIFA World Cup the United States has participated in.
The city is where corkball first appeared. The Cardinals, a team from St. Louis that was created in 1882 and has competed in Major League Baseball since 1892, are the league’s representative. The team’s first World Series victory came in 1926, and its most recent and 11th came in 2011.
A ice hockey team that plays professionally is called the St. Louis Blues. They are participants in the National Hockey League’s Central Division of the Western Conference (NHL).
