Mahashivratri 2021 : why Tulsi is not climbed on shivling, read this legend related to the demon named jalandhar!

 

Devotees take many measures to please Lord Shiva. To get the blessings of Lord Shiva, along with keeping fast, devotees offer dhatura, bell leaf etc to the Lord. But do you know that Tulsi should not be used in the worship of Lord Shiva. It is said that Bholenath may be offended by the use of tulsi in worship.

Know why Tusli is not offered to Lord shiva –

According to the legend, the demon named jalandhar was an enemy despite being part of Lord Shiva. He was proud of his bravery. Being an enemy of Lord Shiva, he wants to fight mahadev and get his place. It is believed that she got married to a girl named Vrinda to become immortal. Vrinda followed the entire life-long patriotism. For this reason, he is considered the most sacred. Jalandhar was blessed with immortality because of Vishnu’s armor.

But Jalandhar wanted to rule the gods due to being a demon caste. Therefore, he challenged Shiva to fight. But Vrinda was finding it difficult to kill due to her husband’s pity. This led to Lord shiva and Vishnu thinking of a way to kill him. First of all, he took the jalandhar armor form Lord Vishnu. After that, in the absence of jalandhar, to take away the sanctity of vrinda, came to his palace in the form of jalandhar.

Thus, as soon as Vrinda’s husband dissolved religion, Jalandhar’s boon of immortality also ended. In this way Lord Shiva killed him. When vrinda came to know that he had been cheated, he got angry and cursed Lord Shiva that Tulsi leaves  would never be used in his worship.

According to another legend, Tulsi’s name was Vrinda in the previous birth and she was the wife of a demon named Jalandhar. He used to do a lot of Torhture on the demon Vrinda. Lord Shiva urged Vishnu to teach Jalandhar a lesson. Then vishnu dissolved Vrinda’s Husbandry religion by deceit. Later, when Vrinda came to know that Lord Vishnu had diturbed his husband’s religion, he cursed Vishnu that you will become stone. Then Vishnu told Tulsi that I was protecting you form jalandhar, now I curse, Vrinda became a basil plant.
