The history of Juventus F.C. spans more than 120 years of football from the Turin, Italy-based club that was founded in 1897 and would go on to become the most successful team in Italian football history as well as one of the top football clubs in the world. Latin’s word for “youth” is iuvents. Juventus was Italy’s best club of the 20th century and the second-most prosperous European club over the same period, according to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, a global organisation recognised by FIFA.

In late 1897, students from the Massimo d’Azeglio Lyceum in Turin, including the Canfari brothers, created Juventus as Sport-Club Juventus. Two years later, it changed its name to Foot-Ball Club Juventus. In 1900, the club entered the Italian Football Championship. On March 11th, 1900, Juventus played their inaugural match.
